Galilaea

aus Wikipedia, der freien Enzyklopädie

The name Galilee is the Anglicized version of the Greek name Galilaia (Γαλιλαια), which in turn is the Hellenized version of the Hebrew name Galil (גליל) or Galilah (גלילה), as it is called in 2 Kings 15:29. Research suggests that Orchis galilaea relies on a sexually deceptive pollination strategy. Instead of producing a reward of nectar for visiting pollinators this orchid produces a scent that mimics the female sex pheromones which attract male bees (Halictus marginatus) to the flowers. According to the Bible, Galilee was named by the Israelites and was the tribal region of Naphthali and Dan, at times overlapping the Tribe of Asher's land. However, Dan was dispersed among the whole people rather than isolated to the lands of Dan, as the Tribe of Dan was the hereditary local law enforcement and judiciary for the whole nation. A region of northern Israel. The northernmost part of Palestine and the ancient kingdom of Israel, Galilee was the center of Jesus's ministry.
